MSC 530 Communication, Management, and Ethics
Summer 2020
The Ethical Dilemmas and Agency paper is a midterm writing assignment where students are asked to describe an ethical issue they have encountered in a workplace or other organization, explain why it caused ethical concerns and how it was or was not resolved. Students must also identify and explain a philosophical approach or combination of approaches discussed in class which could be applied to evaluate and address the concerns of the ethical issue.
The intended outcome of the assignment was to illustrate to students that we are surrounded by ethical concerns on a near daily basis, and the ability to spot these issues, and apply ethical approaches for resolving them is a priority for us as both members or functioning communities or managers of those communities. For students to be able to identify situations occurring in their daily lives which have ethical concern, to evaluate and discuss them comprehensively and to draw from time tested approaches in order to manage situations puts us in a better position to rise to these occasions when they occur in reality.
